Character Name: Sora.
Character Series: Kingdom Hearts.
Age: Sixteen. (When I first took him up in April he was fifteen, so I'm going to say he must have had a birthday somewhere in there and is now sixteen.)
Background: Sora grew up on a warm cluster of islands called the Destiny Islands, where he had a best friend named Riku who he explored the islands with. A mysterious girl named Kairi came to live in the mayor’s house and quickly befriended both Sora and Riku, completing the pair of boys. The three of them grew older and yearned to find out what was “out there,” off their island and made a raft together. The day before they set sail, a great storm formed over the islands and Sora got out of bed to go check on the raft. Sora, Riku, and Kairi all ended up on the island they always play on, and through mysterious forces, were all seemingly separated. Riku was whisked away by darkness, Kairi disappeared not an inch from Sora’s fingertips, and Sora was rocketed to another world entirely, where his first great adventure begins.
In Traverse Town, the place Sora woke up to find himself, he met Donald and Goofy. The two were looking for a “key,” which they soon discovered Sora seemed to have (in the form of a weapon – the keyblade). Thus, they planned to travel together to find King Mickey, who disappeared leaving nothing behind but a vague note. Before departure from Traverse Town, Riku appeared to Sora and exchanged words, Sora inviting Riku to come along with them, but Donald quickly shot that idea down, separating Sora and Riku once again.
During their travels to find King Mickey, Sora, Donald, and Goofy visited many foreign worlds and fought many strange creatures (most known as heartless), which hone their minds and bodies, all the while picking up clues as to where King Mickey is located and what significance the keyblade has. They made many friends, allies, and enemies, traveling by ship through passages in space, and the three heroes grew very close in the time they were together. Riku showed up a few more times, each time the rift between him and Sora getting bigger – their main competition finding Kairi.
When Sora and company finally made it to Hollow Bastion (the castle where Riku stayed with Maleficent), Sora lost the keyblade to Riku and, despite their bond, Donald and Goofy abandoned him as their mission was to help the keyblade wielder (now Riku). Sora didn’t give up, forging forward into the castle on his own, with only a wooden sword (and a beast), to find out where Kairi is, and ended up meeting with Riku again, winning the keyblade back because his heart was stronger. They fought, and Sora won.
Afterward, the party met Maleficent, who they defeated. Getting rid of Maleficent lead Sora to Riku for another fight, before which Sora learned that his friend Kairi’s heart had been inside of him for the whole long journey, and after beating Riku for a second time, Sora turned the keyblade on himself in order to unlock Kairi’s heart from inside him, which revived her from an unconscious state. That is when, unbeknownst to Sora, Roxas and Naminé are born.
After turning into a heartless and being changed back to his normal self with Kairi’s help, they all went back to Traverse Town to drop Kairi off safely, then turned right back to seal the keyhole in Hollow Bastion, which opened a portal to the End of the World. There, they met Xehanort’s heartless and defeated him, ending up at the “door to darkness,” which was where the gang finally met up with King Mickey – and Riku. Riku, reformed and freed of Xehanort’s possession, helped Mickey and Sora close the door to darkness to save the worlds, and afterward, when all the worlds were shifting to go back to normal, Sora promised Kairi he would see her again – after he found Riku.
On their journey to find Riku and Mickey, Sora, Donald, and Goofy happened upon a large castle named Castle Oblivion. There they hoped to find clues about King Mickey and Riku, but the deeper they went into the castle, the more memories they lost. It was orchestrated by a dark organization of thirteen members who used Naminé (Kairi’s Nobody) to create false memories in Sora’s mind. The three went to every place in their memories, but ended up in a place called Twilight Town, which Sora was certain he had never been. It was explained to him by an Organization member that he was experiencing a memory from Roxas – the other side of his heart.
Many Organization members were eliminated during the time Sora was in Castle Oblivion, as well as a Riku Replica, and finally Sora came face to face with Naminé, who told him she would restore his memories to the way they were before. She also told him that it would take a while and he must sleep through it, but their memories would be fully unscrambled and restored when they awoke.
Sora, Donald, and Goofy woke up months later in Twilight Town with their memories restored to a point. They couldn't remember what happened to them in Castle Oblivion. They resumed their quest to find Riku and King Mickey, going to old and new worlds alike to battle heartless and left over Organization members, eventually finding themselves in The World That Never Was.
There, they battled hordes of heartless and Sora met up with Roxas again to fight with him, and won. In the castle, Sora found both Riku (who looked like Xehanort) and Kairi, though had to go through many Organization members in order to finally reach them. Everyone learned the truth about the Organization’s plans, what Roxas and Naminé really are, and even Riku’s secret. Riku and Sora ended up going into battle together against Xemnas, the head of Organization XIII, and defeated him. They seemed to be trapped on a beach afterward, but the two seemed all right with staying there forever as long as evil was vanquished.
____________Canon History Ends, Memento Eden Begins____________
However, instead of remaining on the beach, or finding his way home, Sora awoke in a place called Memento Eden, none-the-wiser. Music was playing all over the island, and though it seemed to be irritating the masses, he enjoyed it during his first couple days. He spent much of his initial time in Memento Eden exploring and trying to figure out the lay of the land, otherwise fitting in quite well, taking everything in stride.
Until he, and the rest of the inhabitants of Memento Eden, swapped genders for a week. Already an awkward teenager in his own skin, Sora never did get very comfortable as a female.
After being in Memento for about a month, Sora began to explore the possibility of getting a job, and was hired to be a stable hand. He was assigned three charges and named them Mickey, Jiminy, and Maleficent. They were the long distance horses people could rent to take on journeys across the island, and Sora took it upon himself to create trails for people to enjoy if they weren't interested in journeying, but wanted to ride around in the woods for a few hours without getting lost. Around that time, Sora got the feeling he knew some people in Memento, but hadn't yet been awarded any memories.
Upon getting his first paycheck, Sora ventured into the town and bought himself two fish (Donald and Goofy), as well as developed an interest in learning to spar. By asking around, he scored a wooden sword and took to sparring with a little group.
At the end of two months in Memento, Sora began to feel more comfortable with his long-term living arrangements, though commented he didn't feel quite at home, nor did he receive any memories.
During that time, he joined a resistance group who wanted information about the land, but they didn't get anywhere at first.
At the three month mark of being in Memento Eden, Sora received his first batch of memories, mostly about his close friends Riku and Kairi.
A couple of events later, Sora began to explore the reasons why people come to Memento Eden, and if they'll ever see each other again when they leave. Being a social and welcoming person, Sora already had made several friends from other worlds (he suspected, though not having all of his memories wasn't completely sure) and didn't want to lose contact with them.
Around Christmas in July time, at which point Sora had been in Memento for about four months, he began to get many memories back that conflicted with memories Riku was receiving, especially concerning Roxas. Being that Roxas was in Memento and Sora felt a connection to him, it caused conflict between Riku and Sora (Riku didn't feel right about Roxas and didn't want Sora near him, and Sora wanted to be near Roxas), as Riku disagreed with Sora being friendly with Roxas despite his warnings. It was resolved when Riku accepted Sora's wishes and decided to join in on many of their excursions to keep an eye on things.
In an attempt to leave the island, Riku devised a plan to build a boat and sail away as far as they possibly could. Even with that intention in mind, Sora kept on with his activities in Memento, such as giving Mitsukuni swimming lessons, working at the stables, hanging out with friends, and even creating a rope swing for the Warf. However, Sora also knew he was separated from other friends outside of Memento, and missing them drew him to want to find a way out.
During the week a couple of Sora and Riku's friends (Kurogane and Fai) offered to take over their jobs so the two could work on the boat full time (Sora was getting a bit worn out trying to juggle so many things at once), and during that week Riku admitted to having romantic feelings for Sora, which Sora rejected. Both of them tried to be normal around each other, but the boat was finished with their relationship being very strained.
A small group of people finally set off on the boat, and they stopped on the other side of the island after sailing for days. Riku and Fai went off to get water, and when they didn't come back in reasonable time, Kurogane and Sora went to look for the two, who were acting suspicious once they all met up. From that time on, Fai and Riku were in a romantic relationship with each other, leaving Sora and Kurogane dumbfounded.
To figure out what to do, the boat sailed back to town where the party remained. Sora picked his job at the stables back up. Shortly after returning, he got memories back about how he traveled from world to world with the keyblade and a spaceship. Though he generated interest among those who were trying to figure out how to leave, no one seemed to believe it was possible to make a spaceship in Memento Eden.
A couple weeks past Sora's fifth month in Memento, there was a fire that overtook the entire Ari Apartment building, throwing many people into panic. Sora was devastated that his fish were lost in the fire, but the next day the apartments were rebuilt, bigger, and people's rooms were switched around. The fire and miraculous regeneration of the building made Sora question all of his theories of what Memento Eden is and what it's capable of.
All the meanwhile, Kurogane and Sora were devising a plan to break the spell on Fai and Riku, and after talking it over, decided on the typical fairytale spell breaker: a kiss. Many of their attempts were foiled, but eventually, in a fashion much different than they had planned, the kisses were given and the spell was broken. After a rocky period, Sora and Riku made up, and Sora's uneasy feelings toward Fai expired, leaving things similar to how they had been before the boat trip.
At the beginning of December, when Sora had been in Memento Eden for over seven months, begins to think of it as home, and shortly after that, he disappears, like many before him.
Personality: Sora is an extremely optimistic and happy teenager with a big heart and a relatively empty head (though he does have his bouts of regular grouchy teenager behavior). There are many times one may find him irritatingly naïve, but he is able to think quickly on his feet when it comes to battles and has great reflexes (not the same thing, but Sora will try to argue it if he has a chance). Despite his mental handicaps, Sora has a strong sense of right and wrong and it’s almost impossible to sway him. If he comes upon something he finds wrong, he won’t keep quiet about it and will even jump into the fray to fix it if need be. To his enemies, he is a great threat and bother, but to his friends, Sora is loyal and true.
Many of the decisions he makes are based on impulse because he isn’t a strategist in the least and has trouble absorbing complicated information without thinking about it first, but his short temper and energy make it difficult for him to sit back and ponder things in the first place, so he often leaps before thinking. However, this seems to work for him, and his great determination gets him through many scrapes, whether it be facing an opponent or getting through school.
For such a skinny boy, Sora’s appetite is more or less voracious. He likes to feast on just about anything, though favors things that are less than healthy, such as sweets. Salads and fresh veggies of any kind most likely won’t attract his attention as much as some other things, but if need be (or if he’s forced) he will eat them without too much of a fuss. His slender frame likely is due to the fact that he is extremely active and doesn’t sit still long when he has a choice not to.
Without his memories, Sora is unable to use magic, nor does he remember he is a great warrior, so he takes his quick speed and great balance and reflexes as talents he was born with. The fact that he can’t seem to even remember what his favorite color is (even though that comes back to him relatively quickly just by looking and realizing) doesn’t seem to bother him on the outside, but Sora does struggle every day to remember what it is he knows he’s forgetting, searching for clues in everything. Instead of panicking, Sora goes through the motions in Memento Eden, building a life for himself while he figures out how to leave.
